Abandoning BT’s confusing service

British Telecom are one of the company’s that have always annoyed me, but I have had to pay them for a basic landline package since 2007 because I needed it for ADSL Internet. Over the years they have slowly increased there prices and offered me things I don’t need. It seem’s they screwed me over too…

Thankfully BE offer a cheap landline service and as I already use them for my internet service, there is no contract for the landline as it just uses my broadband one which ended years ago. So I decided to switch to from BT’s £15 per month landline to BE’s £10 per month landline. Continue Reading

Solid state drives

Stephen was kind enough to loan me an old 60 GB OCZ Vertex 2 solid state drive so I could give it a try and finally see  what all the fuss is about.

Until now, people had always said that solid state was the way to go and they saw some great improvements in load times of various things but because I was never able to actually sit behind a computer before and after one of the drives had been installed it was difficult to visualise in my head if it would be worth while. Stone’s Wishing Well that was

A few months ago I had made a blog post here that talked about how I nearly got an Outpost named after me and a Nyx Supercarrier in Eve Online only for both to fall through and not happen.

All of that however is out of date and old news because as of today its now safe to say that both of those things have been achieved! Stone’s Wishing Well exists and anyone can fly to Y-MPWL and see it. While the Nyx also now exists albeit on a character and location that will remain undisclosed. Continue Reading

Skyrim video settings

Picked up Skyrim on Steam yesterday evening and while starting the game it ran a check on my system to decide what video settings to have and the result was “High Quality” which I thought was good.

This was until I remembered Dave on TeamSpeak saying that there result was Ultra High Quality. So I decided to create the following #firstworldproblems #skyrim internet meme image. Continue Reading

Voice of VOLT 19

Its 10 days late, but I am proud to have finished The Volition Cult [VOLT] alliances first new public newsletter with all of our Eve Online related content and propaganda. Its not ridiculously long either, at a mere eight pages.

As usual, thanks to Luth Curmal for content, our unnamed fleet commanders for battlereports, unnamed players who took videos and screenshots of those battles and Gareth Barkwell for proof reading. Continue Reading

Some cheap art prints

I have decided to stop being tight and spend some money on my place in Bath rather than just using it entirely for gaming or technology. As a result, I managed to pick up a cheap print on canvas from some really iffy place in Kingswood that was run down and had people that would mug you if it were dark.

After that, the next few I got from the much safer Amazon website from a company called DagaCanvas. Pictures below… Continue Reading

Website theme updated

Recently updated my website theme to be more visual as the default WordPress theme while very functional is rather popular as everyone seems to be using it. Quite pleased with the result though as its visually much more appealing I think and the dynamic banner is rather sweet. Continue Reading

We’re Back! Why I am busy

Straight to the main point… The Volition Cult [VOLT] alliance is being reformed. With the Volition Cult corporation returning to our roots, with some old friends and corporations that also want to return to the style of game play we enjoy most. Continue Reading

Leading an internet community

Having now seen how large alliances run things from both the perspective of the top of the chain of command and the bottom, I wanted to share my thoughts and ask why people in leadership make the same mistakes and lose focus of who they serve? Continue Reading

Stone’s Wishing Well that wasn’t

This is the story of how I nearly got a outpost in Eve Online named after me and nearly acquired my own Nyx Supercarrier only to have both things cancelled due to a player called Zagdul.

During June we left Mostly Harmless as Volition Cult was fed up of the poor leadership and lack of understand for the members on the front line. Sitting in a POS for hours waiting for nothing to happen for whatever reason is not fun and as our members play the game to have fun, an alliance can’t ask us to keep doing something not fun without allowing us to have fun from time to time to make the whole thing worth while.
